The story behind the stage.
35 YEARS

The man who spent 35 years learning where good ideas go to die.

Eric Corey Freed has stood on hundreds of stages and sat in more boardrooms than he can count. Every one of them taught him the same lesson, good ideas rarely fail because they’re bad. They fail because something quietly gets in the way.

He calls that something friction, and after three and a half decades of watching it happen up close, he built a framework for finding it and clearing it before it kills the next great idea in the room.

ERIC'S STORY

From architect to innovation strategist.

Eric started his career the way most architects do, drawing buildings and solving problems one project at a time. Along the way he became one of the most recognized voices in sustainable design, earned his LEED Fellow status, and now leads as Director of Sustainability at CannonDesign.

For years his name was tied to green building. That work still matters, and it shaped everything that came after. But the deeper he got into large organizations, the more he noticed a pattern that had nothing to do with sustainability. Good ideas kept dying the same way, not from a lack of talent or budget, but from fear, outdated habits, and rules nobody remembers writing.

That pattern is what led to Frictionless, the framework built from thirty five years of watching what actually stops innovation, and clearing it out of the way.

AIA, LEED Fellow, EcoDistricts AP, LFA, ActiveScore AP. Principal and Director of Sustainability, CannonDesign.
I do not think innovation needs more ideas. I think it needs less friction. Every organization I have ever walked into already has the ideas it needs. My job is finding what is standing in the way.
